Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev secured his first title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.
The win also means Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
His retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced service.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional victory, took control to force a decider.
Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.
Suitably, he clinched the title with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
